Motivation
In order to keep the Lega Pauper Lipsia as approachable, affordable and varied in decklists as possible we have chosen to allow proxies for league play. However in order to guarantee a smooth tournament experience for players and judges alike we chose to establish some rules for what constitutes an acceptable proxy.
Rules
For proxy legality we try to stick as close as possible to the Magic Tournament Rules, specifically sections 3.3 Authorized Cards and 3.12 Marked Cards.
In short this means that any proxy must:
- Have its name and mana cost be fully visible and unobstructed
- Be a coloured print of an official Magic the Gathering printing
- Not be a visibly marked card (Visibly distinct in a face down pile or shuffled deck)
- Special attention should here be paid to proxy thickness. Possible solutions for this are (If you use a different solution and the card can not be distinguished this is also fine!):
- Proxying your entire deck (including lands!)
- Inserting a paper slip of the same thickness behind the original cards
- using thin paper and inner sleeves
- If you use paper prints make sure to back them with a Magic the Gathering card so they flex similarly.
- Special attention should here be paid to proxy thickness. Possible solutions for this are (If you use a different solution and the card can not be distinguished this is also fine!):
- Fully (or at least mostly) cover whatever card is used as backing. Rule of thumb is that whatever is visible should not cause any gameplay confusion.
- Minor miscuts will not be a problem, but the better the cut the less likely there is to be an issue. Please try to keep any important gameplay information like characteristics or rules text visible.
If a proxy is found to not be acceptable, you will not be penalized and are still allowed to play your deck on the day, but you will (most likely) be issued a Replacement Proxy (compare Magic Tournament Rules 3.4 Proxy Cards) for the day. In extreme cases we may ask you to replace a card (or set of cards) with a basic land (See the Judging at Regular Document). In cases where this is not a feasible fix we will try to work out a solution on a case by case basis.
If after reading the Rules you still have questions whether your proxies are acceptable, feel free to contact us either at our email, telegram channel or ask our judges in Person.
